For hundreds of years, the Fort Chip Metis and Athabasca Chipewyan First Nation have shared the traditional territory in Big Point. Soon, that mutual and respectful agreement will be renewed.
FCMA and ACFN will work together in the Spring of 2022 to establish a Nation to Nation memorandum of understanding, which will include land use discussions.
Until the time that this memorandum is signed, we respectfully note that there will be a moratorium on building in Big Point. No structures, including cabins, can be built in the area at this time.
We look forward to updating you when the memorandum is signed, which will include policies related to long-term land use at Big Point.
